Online Communication
The benefits I have experienced from being able to communicate online cannot be discounted. I use this form of communication every day. The purpose of this page is to list the various forms of online communication and my experience with them.

E-Mail- I have used this form of asynchronous communication for many years. What started out for me as a fun form of communication has turned into an essential tool that allows me to solve a myriad of issues. Ninety percent of all correspondence at my school district is done through e-mail.What used to take a five-day turn around by snail mail is done in an hour by e-mail.

ListServ- I belong to several groups on the Yahoo web pages that use the benefits of listserv. Several years ago I became interested in building my own airplane. It was suggested that I join a group that brought together many people with a common interest. Here I was able e-mail a question that was then sent to all participants in the group. Everyone could then post a response to my inquiry if they so chose. As a result I was able to gather a wealth of information from a variety of people with varying degrees of experience. This was, and continues to be, of great value to me.

Discussion Board- I have participated on several discussion boards. These involved sports or aviation issues. These have been valuable and fun at times. The drawback is that there are some people who post some very inappropriate statements. These boards are supposed to be monitored, but it still is an issue you should be aware of.

Chat or Instant Message- I have participated in chats and instant messaging. I still find it more comfortable to speak over the phone rather than typing in real time. Probably because my typing speed is very poor. I have participated in combined teleconference and web presentation workshop. Again, I was not comfortable with the format.

Blog- I have logged on and read several blogs. I have enjoyed reading them.

Wiki- As you can see, I am working on my wiki experience. I hope to become more adept at all forms of technological communication.
